Also with an emphasis in Nature Based Learning, as well as Reggio-inspired, and Anti-Bias work. The Child Development and Educational Studies Department at Fullerton College has a rich tradition of providing quality instruction and active professional participation in the fields of child development and early education. Our research driven pedagogy, the ever-changing demands of the profession, and the needs of our students direct the department’s curriculum and certificates. The program is designed to provide both transfer and career preparation opportunities for students pursuing careers in Child Development, Teacher Education, and Human Services. The department has a Reggio inspired Lab School/ Preschool Program for young children ages 2 -6. Student Observations The Child Development and Educational Studies Department at Fullerton College has a Labratory School that permits students to participate in observations in a real classroom setting. The Child Development and Educational Studies Department Labratory School maintains relationships with several colleges and universities, thus we welcome undergraduate and graduate students for observations. Priority is given to Fullerton College students. Student observations are typically scheduled by contacting the CDES Dept. Lab School office at 714-992-7069. Click on registration link above. “Endangered Play, Endangered Development: Why Play is Even More Important in the 21st Century And What We Can Do To Promote It” With noted Author, Researcher, and Advocate Diane Levin, PhD, Professor of Education Boston University’s Wheelock College October 19th, 6:00pm Wilshire Auditorium Fullerton College Play is vital to all elements of a child’s development, yet there are many factors at work that are robbing children of the full benefits of play. Diane will explore the forces in society that are endangering play and will describe a wide variety of strategies we can use to promote and advocate for healthy development. Dr. Levin has authored (and co authored) dozens of articles and eight books, including: The War Play Dilemma, Beyond Remote-Controlled Childhood, So Sexy So Soon, and Teaching Young Children in Violent Times.
